Very entertaining game reports. The tips and hints were very useful in explaining things. Seems to have rained Romans for the weekend?!

I reckon you're over thinking it a tadge Tyler. We're not playing for sheep stations anymore, or so I thought, and to me it's about playing the games and socialising through the day with a coffee in o ...

I use back-to-base-ix and buy quite a variety of bases in various shapes and sizes. There service is excellent.

Seems to be a problem that we're spoiled for choice when it comes to Ancients rule sets! There is no longer any one dominant rule set, an advantage DBM had but eventually gave up. With respect to in ...

I think someone on the Slitherine website made the point that FOGA V3 is going to have to be good to draw gamers back to play it. The impression is the many have already drifted away.

It was a good day. The Lion Rampant rules worked very well. The Sherriff (me) got spanked by Robin's lads in tights throughout the day. The kids who played did well. My mounted serjeants being held b ...

Thanks Nick. This is the sort of more substantial and informed discussion I'd like to see when discussing rule sets. I'll look forward to more observations as familiarity increases, not to mention ho ...

A case of 'too little, too late' I fear. 2017 'tentative' means FOGA v3 will be dead in the water by the time it (ever) arrives. Shows they've learned nothing from the decades of WRG rule-update fiasc ...

I always liked DBM, it just went out of control and unsupported so fell away. I just always found it more enjoyable as a Doubles game which made it a more social occasion. And I still think DBA is, f ...

Thought I'd butt in with an opinion as a former die-hard (or died-easy?) competition player who was crap at it but kept on coming back for more, but perhaps we ought to ask why even LOA members don't ...

I used Sea Peoples in the doubles and I remember Martin's Assyrians blowing it off the table with nothing but light infantry archers. My whole half of the table of warriors and chariots was destroyed ...

Whilst Victorian gamers may have spoken about not gaming with FOGA, neither have they voted to play DBMM. Absence of one is not evidence for the other. I suspect Mark and Martin have hit the nail on t ...

PostForum: Ancients   Posted: Sun Sep 21, 2014 1:38 pm   Subject: Thoughts on FoG games
Would it be worth just asking what would persuade players to come back and play in the FOGA tournament? Competition games of FOGA as done had become slow, dull and too often predictable. What the Leag ...
