As a follow up to the refight of the Battle of Eylau that we staged earlier this year, we will be refighting the Battle of Friedland at the League's October meeting using FOG N v2.

Generals Bornstein, Inglis A and Mezzi with their stoical Russians will attempt to improve on their historical counterparts' result and defeat the elan of the French commanded by Generals Fryer, Shaw and Gordon.

Will the Russians be able to cross the river at Friedland and defeat the isolated corps of Marshal Lannes before the wily French Emperor is able to rush up his dispersed army and punish the Russians for risking fighting with their backs to a major river?

Come and see it all play out at the League meeting in October.

Both armies are still recruiting for generals so if anyone is keen to join in, let me know.

Oops, sorry, you're right. That should be Inglis D... But Inglis A is also welcome!

Well the dust has finally settled over the battlefield of Friedland.

Unsurprisingly, the Russians were unable to reverse the historical result and were tossed with disdain into the River Alle after 4 hours of fierce combat, interrupted only by a good lunch.

General Inglis (aka Marshal Bernadotte) failure to arrive for the battle didn't help the Russian cause (the general's claim of believing the battle was to be fought on a different date giving rise to the Bernadotte sobriquet), but the arrival of the newly promoted General Frank (surname tbc) was welcomed on the Russian side and promises to yield a new member to our mighty club.

As the battlefield was being cleared of discarded weapons and equipment and the dead were being buried in boxed, discussions commenced on the next battle to be fought. The name Ligny and the date December were heard among the troops. Volunteers for this upcoming encounter are now being sought so rush down to the nearest recruitment centre and express your interest (i.e. let me know if you're keen to play).

Battle looked suitably impressive with 1000+ (?) beautifully painted miniatures. Anyone take any photos?
