With a big hill I will be planning to have a multiplayer Solferino battle in 2-3 months, in 15mm using the Grand Tactical Rules.
I would need to paint another 2 corp of French (4 divisions, although not all would be needed to the battle down on the ridge).

2-3 players a side. Command a corp. or wander and be royalty for a turn. |

Count me in! I'm still painting lots of 10mm figures to game this system.
Just tell me when.

I laid out what I would need to have for the entire french army: 3 corp (7 divisions, 2 cavalry divisions). Double basing on small FoW stands looks better and sure has shrunk the force !
I would say I am aiming for May although April would be possible with 4 divisions and 1 cavalry division - which would probably be enough for a bunch of unfamiliar players and recycling beaten up divisions with fresh ones to storm the heights and beyond.
If I re-rebased (3 instead of 6 to a stand) then april with 5 divisions (2 corp +1) would be a goer.
The French Corp are 1st (going for the ridge), 2nd (covering the plain and potentially not having much to do so can reduce their force), and the Guards (backing up 1st) who come on later.
Stuff done:
5 infantry stands
6 infantry command
4 cavalry stands
5 officers
Primed:
2 infantry stands
1 infantry command

Thank you.
Sorry to be a nuisance, but I am probably now only available in the morning, due to family committments.
What time do you intend to start?

10am + setup time (~1/2 hour).
The French army has been completed, 5 divisions of infantry strong. flagging and painting bases left. J.Moore will be bringing the Austrians.
A week out I will post a rules summary. |

What to bring
Print out the 4 page rules cheat sheet:

Also bring a tape measuer and 2 D10.
Rules Summary
Orders must be given to formations (a Stand to an entire Division) for them to move.
Orders can carry over into following turns.
To action the Order, a D10 is rolled and the success % is based on the commanders rating (Austrians are 10% worse at each level than the French). The Average rating is 70% (60%).
Senior commanders can try after a fail, or if adjacent to the testing commander, add their % to the roll (a good idea).
Commanders have a command radius. 4" for brigade, 8" division, 16"corp.
French get 1 order per division (2 brigades), Austrians get 2 per corp (4-5 brigades). Orders can be shared within the same corp. Cavalry divisions get their own order.
A failed order can be rerolled next turn.
Orders are Move, Charge, and Reform.
Phases of the game are simultaneous. Both sides move together, using pro-rata when applicable.
Opportunity fire can be taken to try and affect movement, etc.
Basic movement rages are 8” infantry, 15” cavalry, 1” artillery prolong (12” limbered).
Artillery fires before rifles. Hits can cause suppression (requires an Order or 2 turns to overcome). Ranges are 3” rifle short range, 5” rifle medium range, up to 32” artillery.
Each infantry stand has only 1 firepoint normally (double vs cav and artillery) so needs to be massed and in short range. A full regiment (3 stands) has 60% change of causing 1 hit within 3”, 40% at medium.
Melee requires morale to charge, morale to stand. Opportunity fire can be made against the charger before they are in contact.
French have a 50% change to reduce Austrian morale when charging vs 20%.
Melee has 2 phases. Phase 1 with leading stands, phase 2 with whoever can fit.
Morale roles are taken throughout the turn.
Divisional break points have 2 steps: cease offensive operations, then retire (both 50% chance).
French breaks are 4 and 6.
Austrian breaks are 3 and 5.
The table size will be 6' x 8', deeper to reflect the Austrian deployment zone and progress of the battle during the day. A division comfortably deployed has a 2' frontage. |

Austrians are ready to destroy the Bonapartist upstart and destroy him. When we're finished with him there will be only leftovers for Bismark to take on! Long live the empire. |
