I've been looking at a few painting guides for the TYW and seen several mentions of "blackened" armour, and I was wondering how to paint this on the figures.
Does it actually mean black, or is it more a metallic with a heavy black wash?

Actual black .

I think the best/simplest way is to buy a pot of gloss black

Steve, I have just faced the same problem as my cuirassiers that I am painting also wore blackened armour. My solution was to do a broad drybrush of 50/50 black/gunmetal over a black undercoat. On a 15mm model this has worked well. It picked out some of the fine details but, from a distance, looks more or less black.
