Have been playing around in the Uniform Templates. Here is my first cut at some regimental uniforms and colours for the troops of my Imagi-nation - "the Duchy of Saxe Bishnak". I wanted something distinctive, hence the orange uniform theme :

Wait til you design your Guard and invent your National anthem (and traditional folk dance )
BTW what is the program you used to produce all that ? |

Hehehe, yep working on the folkdance and anthem at the moment. Also need to brew a national beer and distil a national spirit.
I'm not great on graphics programs. I just copied the templates from the "Not by Appointment" site and coloured them in Microsoft Paint. Drew the flags in the same.
I look forward to throwing a few ideas about campaigns around with everyone at the club tomorrow.

Those yellow jackets are going to be fun to paint!!!
Depending on whether you wish your tricorns to have rosettes (the funny pompoms o the side of the tricorn) will depend on which figures to use.
Prussians have them the Austrians generally don't.
I will just remeber to wear anti glare glasses when playing them.

Hehehe, they are actually meant to be orange, but they seem to look a bit pale and washed out here (campaign-weathered perhaps? )
But yes, they will indeed stand out nicely....

Well, I'll be in for this.
I have Swedes in 15mm with tricorns I could use.
And I plan to paint up my Prussian 15mm and do a Prussian 6mm.
So if I can be bothered painting again I will have a few options, but at least until then I have the Swedes (and a fairly ordinary Russian 15mm). |

Poor old regiment no. 8. "Pink! Why do we have to wear pink? All the other regiments get to wear cool colours and we get pink!"
Very nice work Duke Bishnak.
Christ, it looks a lot like a new scale for me! Perhaps I could put dibs on scary undercoat black.
How many armies would there be available to players who are way overcommitted in their figure painting? |

OK , good chat at the meeting today .
My understanding of what was planned is ;
the campaign to be limited in scope to a year of action , similar to the rules
players will be drawn at random to form 2 Confederations
Armies will be based on 7 Years War , players will nominate which country they are shadowing .
Countries like no other (Bishtopia) , will be modelled from the German States list .
We will start play in Feb 08.
The nominal scale will be 18mm on 60 x 30 bases
The campaign rules will be taken from Might and Reason .
Does this look like what you heard ? Anything I forgot ? |

Sounds good, with one small modification:
Players can base their national armies on any country they choose and must use only that army list from the Might and Reason rulebook (and within that from the SYW list where there are variations). You just can't "mix and match" by, for example, taking your infantry from one list, heavy cavalry from another, light cav from another etc. For my imagi-Nation I was going to use the Austrian list and uniform pattern as a basis, because I know there are Austrian minis readily available, and because they have the 'standard' troop types, plus some interesting ones like Grenz. Players could equally base their armies on Russians, Prussians, French, Hanoverians or whatever.
Also players lists will be based on whatever grade of commander they choose, as per the M&R lists. So they might choose to go with a 'great' commander and get 150 points of troops or they might go for a 'good' or 'poor' commander for 180 points or 240 points respectively. This varies based on the list chosen, as per the M&R rulebook.

Yeah all good ,
but I think you could mix n match fig types .
You can design your own army ,using Russian Guard ,British cav & French line figures but their stats would be those of the minor German States ( in the rules ) , using the same restrictions .
That way you are free to create your own "look" while not (as Bish pointed out ) taking the best of each army .
Comments ,yay or nay ? |

I'm with Tristan. There's no way in hell I'll get that many points painted by February (we are talking 2008, right?) I will repeat my request for players who might have armies to spare while I (and others) can get cracking on our own. |

Another detail is that M&R infantry and cavalry units are TWO bases in size although there is not reason for them to be the same regiment etc for painting.
For those who don't have armies yet a single base is only 12 figures so you can probably get a couple of units done fairly quickly and combine with borrowed armies for the time being. |
