Nah, I enjoyed 324 points of my not so elite troops on the table against Michael's full army 12" away in that ECW-inspired attack the column on the road scenario.

And not having the reserves (you make 2 rolls - one each for the third and fourth of your commands) arrive for 5 turns (on 10+, 9+, 8+, 7+ and 6+) before I unsurprisingly broke? Awesome.

However - I did have fun in all my games (even that one!), but I definitely think we players need to think more about attack-heavy and defence-heavy armies (usually the lower point force will be defending - thanks for that tip for next year Ian) and also think more about spreading your order of march around.

I think the time increase is not needed, as the objectives in play in most scenarios force more aggressive play.

In both my drawn games the objectives that would decide the matter were being fought over aggressively, however there was insufficient time to get a result.
The scenario in which a force has to attack a fortified line but has an outflank can only be won with average luck if the outflank comes on fairly early. If the outflank takes ages to turn up (as it did in my game) the attacker has to force a fortified line which is not going to happen unless they get lucky in the frontal assault.

Oh I agree the reserves have to arrive differently to the normal rules - as time is shorter and they are usually important to being able to achieve a victory. I think either have them auto arrive on a set turn or by modifying the die roll will help in adding flavour but still making it fun/achievable).

Is it still looking like 1610 - 1650 from any book QM?

Are scenarios needed? I am happy to write one and test it before April.

Correct

Any army from Wars of Religion and any army with an equivalent date so 1610 = 1660

scenarios always welcome

Why do we set an early date limit? Surely if anyone wants to take a 16thC army they could as they're not likely to be advantaged and it might open up to more players.

And what army sizes do we need? 800 and 700 points?

The idea is stick to a particular theme/period.

If you wish to use an earlier army list, say Dutch Revolt, just ask the umpire(me) for permission and I will make a ruling as to whether it fits the overall theme.

The point is that we always restrict the period to some extent.

Yes Lucky you will need a list for both 800 and 700 points.

Martin Morgan has provided two scenarios to change things around.
More are welcome!!

Loan armies and topups are available.

As Martin has provide two new scenarios, they will be include in this year's competition.

Other tried and true ones will be

Lutzen
Brietenfeld
Edgehill
Cropedy Bridge
Marston Moor

Will add to the list when I get a better feel for numbers.

It would be nice to have them a week before the tournament.
