Hi all,
this came up in the game between myself and Dan last meeting, and we haven't yet got a definitive answer on the Slitherine forum.

It's a pretty important issue, so I think a consensus would be good.
Usually it is pretty obvious which direction a retire should move, it is those other occasions that could cause problems.
Off-set contact could result in some very different paths, depending on how you interpret the phrase "directly away".

What do you think?

Found this in the errata
Page 63: RETIRING UNITS: - Clarification. The direction of retire when in contact is in the direction faced by the enemy unit causing the outcome move, or bisecting the angle of facing if more than one enemy is in contact.

Doesn't solve it for when not in contact though. Probably best to stay consistent though.
