Just picked up some lovely Grumpy landscknects but need to provide the pikes. How long should they be, and what is recommended to make them out of? Any suggestions for a quick and easy fix?? _________________ The Dead Cost Nothing! |

Steve, the pikes for most Landsknechte of the early to mid 16th Century should range from about 10' to 15'. In modelling, the simplest scale is to assume that your figures' pikes should be about twice the height of the figure (measured to the top of its head not to any puffy plumes!). For Grumpy figures this will mean that 35-40mm should work.
Veteran Pikemen tended to cut their pikes down on campaign to reduce weight and to make the weapon more versatile in close combat, so you could even go as low as 30mm (which may save your finger tips a blooding too!).
cheers

Thanks very much gents. I think I'll go with the North Star pikes, (with very finely honed points!!) and take the pain!
I like the idea of a war game figure that can bite back. _________________ The Dead Cost Nothing! |
