Thanks Richard. We are, I feel, in very safe hands.

Craig, you are in good company. I doubt there will be too many veteran players turning up on the weekend.

So what are the numbers looking like?
I know it's probably a bit soon, but any chance of runners and riders?

We have 14 entries so far. 12 different armies, with a good mix of troops. I will wait a couple of days to see if we get any late entries before listing the armies.

Martin

What are peoples thoughts on me listing the runners and riders for the comp. Is everyone happy with me listing players and their armies? Or should I just list the armies being used?

Regards
Martin

I'm happy if you list both.

Disappointing that ADLG hasn't been the panacea to the decline of Ancients. For all knocking of FOG A, we had 20 entries last year (although only 18 played due to 2 being sick).

Hopefully all the people pushing for the change have been able to enter the comp.

I know what you mean Richard.

I like ADLG but it seems Ancients is still stuck in an irretrievably fractured state where no comp, in any system, is going to be particularly large.

It's starting to look like we might need to accept we are in a gaming world where 12-20 players is as good as it is going to get.

Early days yet for ADLG in Aus though (after all we have only had one comp and there was a temporary rules supply issue).

Martin, I have one concern about announcing players and armies. If anyone misses it on the forum then it could be argued that they are at a disadvantage. Only a small one for sure but I still think that the process should be transparent and equitable.

Good point, other Martin. We have to start out somewhere.

I've found it's a good idea to email all the players a couple days before the tournament with a list of who is playing, reminder of the start time and address, contact phone number to call if you're running late on the day, etc.

If you sent that out at the same time you posted the list of players and armies here, then no one should miss it.

Maybe just email runners and riders to the players. No one is disadvantaged, & late entrants are not unduly advantaged. Smile btw my earlier comment about winning needs to be taken with a grain of salt as Ive taken a list where all of my strike troops are mediorce!

I agree with Marty , its a bit early to call "fail".

This is the first full rules tournament in Australia & its only 4 short already .

How many years was FoG used to get to 18 players ?

The success or otherwise of the rules will depend on the experience we

provide . So lets play in the right spirit Smile then everyone will have an

experience they want to repeat

There are quite likely to be late entrants. When I run a tournament I send an email to all players as suggested above and generally reserve posting runners and riders in a public forum till a day or two before when it is unlikely to get any more players.

I won't be posting runners and riders until late on Thursday. I will also email all players.

I think it sounds likely to be a stunning success already, particularly for a first time ADLG outing in Victoria with some people encountering problems in securing their copies of the rules, and so far, far from being a "fail". We also have traders too thanks to Stubsy!!! I shudder to think what numbers running FoGAM would have produced, at least one less, that I can absolutely guarantee Twisted Evil

I personally do not think we need to be hung up about when Runners and Riders are posted, but that is Martin's call. After all, no sheep stations are being played for, but what a lovely trophy vignette that would be - a Saxon raid on a Welsh sheep farm!

cheers
Mark

I am easy either way

If you want to publish runners and riders, just make it a condition of entry, if your entry is late after the date, your whole list gets published...

Its simple enough.
