Having recently seen one of the X-Men films (hey, it was late and I couldn't get to sleep!), I'll take my strategy from Wolverine.
When asked "Do you even know how to kill me" he replied "l'm gonna try ripping your head off, see if that works!" Twisted Evil
Exactly how I will implement this.......? Rolling Eyes

Well done Martin for seamlessly organising a great weekend of ADLG, and what a pleasure it was to see one of the real gentlemen of our club, Jared, win! Thanks to Richard S too for organising the trade stands, Richard G the prizes and Django for the table tops. It was also great to see Brett, Jason and Glen make the trip south of the Murray again.

Having not played in a two day tournament for several years, I finished playing 4 really happy friendly games and left feeling quite exhilarated. That seemed to me to be the overall vibe too. To that extent, I suspect there were many other 'winners' apart from Jared.

cheers
Mark

This was a great event. Thanks to everyone who could make it, to everyone I played with for four very enjoyable games, and to Martin for umpiring the event for us all.

My thanks also to Martin, Richard G and Django et al for a fantastic weekend.Turns out that ADLG provides for very quick and, mostly, decisive competition games. There is also time in between for catching up with folks. I'm glad that we as a club decided to make a bold change at relatively late notice.

Yeah, 2 x 200 point games is only about 4 hours game time. Should have left you plenty of time for beer, schnitzel and trash talk.

Thanks to all the players for making this comp a great success and for playing in such a good spirit and making the umpiring job easy. As a first comp with the ADLG rules I know this was a learning process for many players and hopefully it will lead to many more ADLG games being played at the League.

Were there any rules areas that posed a problem?

I have found myself struggling with some of the flank contact/fighting two directions stuff and re-reading it a bit as playing. Some of the stuff about uncontrolled charges is also a bit complex.

Mostly though I find the game refreshingly clear and simple.

Do you guys think it stood up well to the test of competition play?

Thanks Martin and all , a great fun comp

The rules worked really well IMO

Marty I find the flank contacts easier to work if I remember you only drop for being hit front and side , different to other rule sets

Flank only doesn't affect you as much ( of course your factor is 0 & the attackers get an extra 1 ) , this offsets that its much easier to hit a flank

There were quite a few rules questions throughout the tournament but as many players had played less than 5 games before the comp this was to be expected. Probably most of the questions were to do with evading, pursuing and when it was possible to flank charge. We had very few impetuous troops used and it seemed that those that used them knew what they were doing.

I think nearly everyone said that they thought the rules worked well and were easy to understand as they took a very commonsense approach to most situations.

Regards
Martin

Thanks all for a great tourney, as usual. Always have a blast. First ADLG touney in Melb was a great success. Maybe not as many mediocre troops next time. Enjoyed the stalls too. I hope to see many of you at Cancon playing ADLG. Just arrived home after leaving Richard's place at 5.30am. Phew. Jason

Ok..... Right...... Well, that could have gone better. Shocked
Four for four - losses, that is!
Though I did take quite a few of my enemies with me, and my game against Tyler's Cyrenian's was my closest. If only Cyrenian heavy chariots were a little less good at rolling 6's to take my fortified camp! Rolling Eyes

A great weekend of gaming nonetheless. Thanks to all my opponents, I got schooled! Hopefully, I also managed to learn a few things!!
Big thanks to Martin for his grand effort running the comp, and congrats to all the winners.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Django for the great job he did in painting the boards for us. I should have mentioned it at the end of the comp but it slipped my mind. They certainly made playing easier.
