Our friends at the Monday Knights present:

L'Art de la Guerre: Rome is Burning

A 200 point L'Art de la Guerre tournament in Melbourne.

Where: Auburn Bowls Club, 2B Munro St, Hawthorn East, Victoria
When: 28-29 April

L'Art de la Guerre (ADLG) is a fast and easily learned ancients and medieval wargame. The Monday Knights wargames club will be hosting a five round, two day tournament over the weekend of 28-29 April. The event will be held at Auburn Bowls Club, 2B Munro St, Hawthorn East, Victoria. As this is a licensed venue, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The event theme is "Rome is Burning". That doesn't just reflect the Monday Knights' reputation for drink, debauchery and chaos; it also means that your armies should be chosen from the "Ancient Period" "Classical Period" and "Roman Period" sections of the army lists. Please submit lists to absolutelyaveragewargamer@gmail.com by 20th April. Please remember to specify a date for your list. If your choices cover a range of years, please pick one year.

Games will begin at 10am each day. Please arrive at 9:30 Saturday for setup and registration, and by 9:45 Sunday so the draw can be done. Games will last for a maximum of 2.5 hours. There will be three rounds on Saturday, and two on Sunday.

First round opponents will be chosen based on chronological proximity of their armies. From the second round onward opponents will be chosen based on player score.

The tournament will be run by three "playing umpires". Tyler Jefferson, Andrew Oates and Django Upton. The idea of three playing umpires is that they are still able to participate in the tournament, while also running the event. Due to the clarity and quality of the ADLG rules, we've found that this system works quite well.

The Monday Knights pride themselves on being a friendly and welcoming club. New players are encouraged to attend. We can provide borrowed armies and host practice games in advance of the event; just contact us to find out more.

Trophies will be awarded for:
First Place (Genghis Khan: If you're afraid, don't do it. If you're doing it, don't be afraid!)
Second Place (Alexander the Great: There is nothing impossible to him who will try)
Third Place (Mehmed II: Either I conquer Istanbul or Istanbul conquers me)

Countback, if necessary to decide places at the end of the event, will be based first on if the tied players played one another, and who won. Second on strength of schedule. Third on chronological list choice, with the earlier list winning.

Flu season in Melbourne and an inopportunely timed wedding cost us a few players, so we ended up with 12.

First place was taken out by Ian Sharp with Late Imperial Romans, undefeated all weekend. Second went to Martin Morgan with his Ostrogoths. And Ed Corsar with Classical Indians got third place (scraping in just one point above Django Upton and his Graeco-Bactrians).

It was a great weekend, so thanks to all the players, and we look forward to next year!
