Hi All ,
At the start of the year about 6 or so of us felt like FoGR Japanese would be kewl , so a campaign would be even more ...um kewl Confused

This part of the Forum is to chat about how that campaign might work & hopefully trash talk when it's up and running Very Happy

At the moment I'm looking at board games to provide the "framework" but I feel like we should start simple so I'm going to aim for a 'flow-chart " type campaign where the outcome of battles decides the next event .

It would be great to have something for the second half of the year so starting making 600 points worth !

So lists are Ming Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Japanese Warrior Monk Allies, Ikko Ikki or Wakou Pirates. No date restrictions. Hai?!

My 1575 Japanese list is being worked out now!

So far I had only thought of Japanese armies , but what the hell ?

If it's a mapless campaign ,any of the ones you listed are fine neh ?

Tristan and I chatted briefly and the date thing is for sure . Any date from the lists - it will give our armies variety .

I have a feeling Warhammer featured a "flow chart " linked scenarios system ....anyone remember ? Gotta find the old rules book .....

I have just jumped on the bandwagon. Sent off an order to Peter Pig for an Ikko Ikki swarm.

OK this project is still ticking quietly away as we paint Very Happy

After a chat with Tristan , how about we paint up an Ally contingent as this years project ? With a view to a multi-player game later this year ....

After a little tinkering around, I thought I'd elaborate on what Richard alluded to a couple of posts ago...

What I was thinking was we build a small list to get some miniatures on the table and a couple of games played in order to build momentum. With that in mind, here's what I was thinking:

300 AP total - Any era in the list (1500 AD-1615 AD)

1 C-in-C (TC or FC only, no GCs)
0+ Sub Commanders (TC only)
Within your chosen era: use the Minima from the Allies version of the list, but the BG sizes and Maxima from the main list.
If using a list without an Allies version (Ikko Ikki), then just halve the standard Minima.
Deployment: Armies are organised into 2 groups for the purposes of deployment (instead of the usual four), and games are played on 4'x3' tables, with the flank areas reduced to within 6 MUs of the edges

The above rules allow the following sample army:

Japanese - From 1592
1 C-in-C (FC)
1 BG of 4x Mounted Samurai with Yari [Lt Lance Cavarly] (60 pts)
1 BG of 6x Foot Samurai [heavily armoured Warriors] (54 points)
2 BGs of 6x Ashigaru with Yari [Medium foot] (30 points each)
1 BG of 6x Ashigaru with Teppo [Medium foot] (42 points)
1 BG of 2x Samurai with Teppo [Dragoons] (24 points)
3 Palisades (9 points)

6 BGs @ 299 points

I think this is something nice and small to paint towards and will allow for an enjoyable and fast playing game!

Thoughts?

Cheers Wink

Works for me. I will have 300 points ready by the October meeting. Want to pencil me in for a game, Tristan?

Definitely, Bruce. Consider yourself engaged for the October meeting. I might need to steal some BGs from my Muromachi army, but it should still work out well enough for a game!

all: spray black undercoat, light drybrush armour with a dark grey (panzer grey)

samurai: pick out edge of shoulderpads/armour plates with a medium blue (gives a rough 'indication' of coloured ties)
samurai: pick out underclothing in a range of pale 'silk' colours

ashigaru: bone colour for ashigaru helmet 'flap-thingy' and belt
ashigaru: pick out underclothing in a primary colour

skin: leather brown / flesh highlight
weapons: yellow/brown weapon hafts (yari/yumi), metal speartips/swordblades

Sashimono: to taste...

For future units I'll be substituting the blue edging on the samurai and blue clothing on the ashigaru with other primary colours to indicate retinues of different samurai lords.

I tend to paint 9-12 at a time.

Cheers Wink
