Hi all, a group of us are planning to play Kolin 1757 at the October meeting with 28mm Austrian v Prussians. The preferred rules are Might & Reason. So far we have me, Martin Morgan, Micheal Bornstein, Ray Ashton & Steve Neate (?). Come see the game if you are interested. One more player could be fitted in too.

An 8 x 6 table should be fine. I'll start at 10.00 if possible. And I still have slight hopes of trying Maurice in the afternoon if the M&R game finishes quickly!

Regards Frosty

Hi Geoff,
I invited Darren Patterson to play, but there should be plenty of commands available for anyone else who want to join in.

Regards
Martin

Hi
I would also be interested in participating if you are going to have enough commands to go around.

Hi

For what they are worth, some thoughts from when we did Kolin a while ago.

I think that you need to consider whether the classifications of the Austrian hussars are appropriate. Being classed as irregular and light cavalry, they are usually easy meat for the Prussian hussars in most SYW battles. Clearly, however, they did rather better at Kolin than the M and R ratings would suggest. They need to give at least a reasonable account of themselves if the Prussians are not to simply sweep around the Austrian flank.

Regards

Martin & I should be prepared by Sunday! Ray is now a scratching so we should have 6 players with more spots if any more want to join in.

Andrew is now promoted to be Frederick The Great. I intend to play all unit classifications per the rules. So Austrian Hussars stay as irregular! It does show that Prussian hussars are better on the battlefield at this time.

You stop the Prussians from sweeping around the flank by committing cavalry reserves just like they did in the battle.

So, for my sin of questioning the M & R ratings for Austrian Hussars, I have to take the role of Frederick (he of the sociopathic tendencies and dubious personal hygiene). Mind you, the crappy Austrian Hussars are no longer my problem.

Great game! Might & Reason is a good set of rules and the collections of 25mm figures were terrific. I will definitely be up for another ride through the 7 Years War.

Great game, especially for the Prussians. Thanks again to the organisers.

Watched most of the game yesterday, looked like a great game gentlemen, loked like a close run thing for a while there until the Prussians got the upper hand, well done enjoyed watching.
