Campaigns seem to be the flavour of the month in the Napoleonic tread and I am planning to do an Italian Wars campaign of the early 16th century as well Very Happy .

I'm looking for 5 other committed players to kick off the campaign after Cancon. I'll be the most Catholic Spanish and I'm looking for a cunning Venetian, a holier than thou Pope, arrogant Frenchman, cruel Swiss and angry Teuton to complete my League of stereotypes.

Battle system will be FOGR (or DBR by agreement) and Victory Points will be allocated for battles won, generals destroyed, and cities held. First to 100VP wins.

f your interested I'll e-mail you the campaign rules.

Excellent, first cab off the rank! Army list is pretty much the same as the FOG Ancients list - high quality pike and halbardiers screened by masses of light foot with a handgun or crossbow, but they move a bit quicker in FOGR.

Count me in too Lyle.

It is something I have been thinking about doing for a while myself.

I'll go for the French, and a vote to use FoG R.

I'd love to be the Republic of Venice but doubt I can be cunning.....

Would give me the excuse I need to paint my Gendarmes that have sat in their packets for over 10 years.

Okay, we have:
Swiss - Noah
French - Ian
Imperialists - Michael (Maximilian variety)
Venetians - Steve
Spanish - Me
Papal - To be determined

Noah, Cancon is the Australia Day long weekend, so we would have some alliance building in January/February with a kick-off at the February meeting for combat! This gives Steve plenty of time to get his gendarmes painted Very Happy. I don't seem to have your e-mail address Noah, so send an e-mail to me at lyle.daymond@bigpond.com and I'll get the campaign rules to you.

It'll also give me plenty of time to get hold of the rulebooks too...

I'll take Papal. I am not near my Army Lists. What distinguishes this list from the other Italians? Did they employ many Swiss mercenaries? I ask as that's about all I have painted. My preference is for FoGR.

cheers
Bruce

Welcome aboard Pope Bruce Confused . As most people have a decided preference for FOGR and Noah hasn't played DBR then FOGR will be the system we use. Ignore any DBR related comments on the campaign instructions (I will send a new clean copy out to participants).

Bruce, as you are Pope you'll be responsible for negotiating alliances on my behalf, we Spanish are your permanent allies (actually a mechanism so I'm "hands off" as the campaign manager).

I'll send the campaign rules tonight. Don't have my books with me at the moment, but you'll need Gendarmes, mounted cossbowmen and some shot. Not sure about the the Swiss, but you'll have mercenary pikemen of some sort.

Sadly, I have my Trade and Treachery in front of me at the moment.

Italian States list for Papacy consists of the following core troops:

Elmeti (average gendarmes) 4 - 30
Mounted crossbows (cav or light horse) 4 - 16
Artillery 0 - 4

Optional
Mounted arqubusiers (light horse) 0 - 6

Landskects (average) 0 - 24
Unarmoured crossbowmen and arquebusiers up to 48
sword and bucklermen 0 - 8
field fortifications galore

Romagnol pikemen 0 - 24

not one superior troop in the army!!

Whilst as a loyal Swiss I would prefer not to have to fight my own countrymen, surely the Swiss would be allies of atleast the papacy? As after all they are still there (though in a perhaps less dangerous role) though then I don't know the history of them that well.

One thing, reading the campaign rules, what happens if my attacking army and my defending army are in the same area? Does that mean I fight with 1400 points or...?

Lyle I barely know the FoG rules either, but I've had a look at the FoG AM rules and I've played FoG:N so it would still probably be preferable.

Attacking armies invade enemy cities/regions, a defensive army only fights in areas you already hold, so there should be no overlap.

Basically players will fight one attacking battle and a defensive battle each year (sometimes as a minor power), unless their nation is temporarily recuperating, or the Pope, Emperor or French King has been captured.

A campaign year can be fought over one meeting or spread over two meetings to allow people to play other games.

Noah, if you meet other Swiss on the battlefield then consider them from a temporarily hostile canton or Swiss who are even more mercenary than usual.
