We're still looking for a player to take oevr the Swiss from Noah. Do I have any takers?

I would be interested in taking the Swiss. I may even have enough vaguely correct figures, not that I have read the lists Smile.

So if there is still a vacancy then you can count me in.

It's been a bad year for the minor powers with the Papal-Spanish army taking Siena and the French finally overthrowing the Duke of Savoy. The Swiss were defeated by a smaller army of Imperialists (what would their forefathers say?).

Some scores for 1509 are complete, but the Imperialists and Venetians can still win/lose more points.

Imperialist (6 cities, victory in battle, enemy CinC killed, victory by smaller defender) 19 + 12 = 31*
Spain (7 cities) 14 + 15 =29
France (6 cities and victory in battle) 15 +10 =25
Papacy (6 cities and victory in battle ) 15 +10 = 25
Swiss (5 cities and enemy CinC killed) 13 + 10 = 23
Venetian (3 cities) 6 + 14 = 20*

The campaign will go into hiatus in April and will resume in May when the Imperial army led by Maximilian I takes on the Venetian home forces, while the main Venetian army seeks to take the city of Ferrara. This will complete the 1509 campaign year.

The Venetian generals were successful in both defeating the army of Ferrara, capturing that city and fighting off the Emperor Maximilian. This has raised them from the bottom to the top of the standings!! His Imperial Majesty was also captured, and in accordance with the rules of the competition the Imperials cannot invade for two years as they negotiate for the return of the Emperor! Revised scores:

Venetian (4 cities, 2 victories, C-in-C destroyed, Emperor captured bonus, victory by smaller defensive army) 19 + 14 = 33
Imperialist (6 cities, victory in battle, enemy CinC killed, victory by smaller defender) 19 + 12 = 31
Spain (7 cities) 14 + 15 =29
France (6 cities and victory in battle) 15 +10 =25
Papacy (6 cities and victory in battle ) 15 +10 = 25
Swiss (5 cities and enemy CinC killed) 13 + 10 = 23

So far this year can be called the triumph of the city states Shocked as Genoa turned back the French and Modena defeated a far larger Venetian army. The Pope was successful in capturing Florence from the Venetians, while the Spanish successfully besieged Ferrara.

As the Venetians have been reduced to two cities Embarassed , they have been forced to sue for peace and will take no part in the next 3 campaign years. They cannot be invaded by the major powers as they are not viewed as a threat. As the Pope's invading army has been victorious in 2 successive years, without losing the C-in-C, one of the generals in that army can be promoted to FC Smile .

A full write up in the Argus, but so far in 1510 without Martin's attack on Milan we have the following situation regarding victory points:

Spain (8 cities) 16 + 29 = 45
Imperialist (6 cities) 12 + 31 = 43
Papacy (7 cities and victory in battle) 17 +25 = 42
France (6 cities) 12 +25 =37
Venetian (2 cities) 4 + 33 = 37
Swiss (?) ? + 23 = ?*

*Victory by Martin against Milan will see him leapfrog the Venetians and the French.

I had already put my hand up for this one with Lyle. Martin, sorry you didn't see the email.

I am happy to play it out. However, Richard, if you want the game ... its yours. 600 points of Milan versus 800 points (I think) of scarey Swiss. Kudos to anyone who can hold off the Swiss.

cheers
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
I must have missed the email saying that you were playing the Milanese. So sorry Richard, you miss out on the chance to defeat the mighty Swiss (who lost their last battle against a smaller Austrian army Sad ).
A morning game would be good. I will try and get to the club as close to 10.00am as possible.

Regards
Martin
